When Someone Dies Abroad

When someone dies abroad or away from their area it can be a challenging situation. However, we are experienced in dealing with repatriations and can help.

It is important to know what their travel insurance covers as this can affect costs.

What happens if someone dies outside of North Yorkshire?

We will liaise with the authorities and arrange the paperwork. If it happened in the UK we will collect their body and bring it back to North Yorkshire for the funeral.

Can you arrange a funeral elsewhere in the UK?

Yes, but usually we would advise contacting a local funeral director in that location. This would also be the cheaper option. If the deceased has one of our pre-paid funeral plans, this can be used across the UK.

We have links with fellow independent funeral directors across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Please just contact us.

What happens when someone dies abroad?

This is a rare occurrence but something we are experienced in. We can make all the necessary arrangements to transport the deceased back to the UK for their funeral. We can deal with the red tape, both here and abroad. Past repatriations we have dealt with include transporting loved ones from the United States of America, Thailand and Germany.

What happens if the deceased wants to be laid to rest outside of North Yorkshire?

We can arrange this with you.

Outside of the UK, we work with specialist repatriation organisations. Usually this is done by air. If you would prefer road transport to European countries, we can also arrange this. There are more details on our types of funeral – repatriation page.
