Types of Funerals

We are a traditional, independent family firm of funeral directors.

We offer a funeral to suit you.

You may wish to read more details about the different types of funerals you can choose from. They include:

What can I expect when I first call you?

First of all, we will offer our deepest condolences. We know it’s a very difficult time and that you might not be thinking clearly. So please don’t be embarrassed to repeat any questions or ask again for answers.

If you have the following details to hand before you call, this will help us:

  • Your name, your telephone number and address
  • How you are linked to or related to the deceased – are you a family member or a friend?
  • Where did the deceased die – was it at home? Or in a nursing home?
  • If it wasn’t in a hospital or hospice, has a doctor been?
  • Would you like them moving to our Chapel of Rest immediately?

You are not expected to know everything. That is why we are here.

We will be in contact as soon as we can

Once we have collected more information from the authorities, we’ll call you back to arrange a convenient time for an appointment. We always let you know what is happening, every step of the way.

Do you make home visits?

Yes, we can visit you in your home or you can arrange to come into our office in Snainton near Scarborough. Whatever suits you.

Newspaper notices for Scarborough funerals and other areas

We can place notices in the local newspapers for you. Do bear in mind though that if you want a notice in a newspaper, that will determine the date the funeral can happen. This is because the funeral has to then occur after the press date.

Many local newspapers are only published each week, rather than daily. We have extensive knowledge of deadlines including national papers such as the Times or Telegraph. Here’s a list to help you:

Weekly

Daily

We can also arrange announcements in other newspapers elsewhere in the country.

What else can affect the date of a funeral?

If you want a specific location or preferred minister, then it is subject to their availability. We have established good local links and knowledge of more than 50 local churches to call. There are details in our traditional funerals page.
